Panellist

Asst. Professor, Akdeniz University Faculty of Law · IATA Instructor in Aviation Law

Asst. Prof. Dr. Banu Bozkurt is an academic and legal practitioner specialising in aviation law, maritime law and insurance law. Born in Germany and raised in Türkiye, she graduated from Galatasaray University Faculty of Law — a bilingual French–Turkish institution — and completed her graduate studies in European Union Law at Izmir University of Economics.

She earned her PhD from Yeditepe University with a dissertation on the legal responsibility of the air carrier in the event of death or bodily injury of passengers under Turkish and international law, subsequently developed into a monograph on air carrier liability in passenger carriage.

Following her appointment as Assistant Professor at Süleyman Demirel University in 2011, Dr. Bozkurt continued her academic career at Akdeniz University Faculty of Law, where she teaches, researches and publishes extensively in aviation, maritime and insurance law. She is the author and co-author of numerous scholarly articles and book chapters on the carriage of passengers and goods by air and by sea, with particular emphasis on air carrier liability, contractual risk allocation and sector-specific regulatory compliance.

Alongside her academic work, she advises an airline on a broad range of legal and commercial matters, with particular focus on aircraft lease agreements, charter agreements and related aviation contracts — covering contract drafting and negotiation, regulatory and operational risk assessment, and liability allocation. She also serves as an IATA instructor in aviation law, delivering specialised training and contributing to professional capacity-building across the international aviation sector.

Dr. Bozkurt regularly participates in prominent international conferences and congresses devoted to aviation, transport, maritime and insurance law, including the International Congress of Maritime Arbitrators and the Comité Maritime International Conference. Her professional experience further includes arbitration proceedings before institutions such as the ICC, the Centre Arbitrale Internationale de Paris and CEFEREA-ARIAS, where she has acted as both arbitrator and counsel.
